The automotive industry is currently undergoing significant restructuring, and this is especially evident with brands like Jaguar. The British automaker recently announced that no new models will be introduced before 2026.
Before the COVID-19 crisis, manufacturers had clear plans. The popularity of electric vehicles was skyrocketing, and everyone aimed to offer a fully electric lineup by the end of the current decade. However, things have shifted in recent years with rising production costs and changing public opinion on electric vehicles.
Better to Wait
Jaguar’s lineup has been significantly reduced in recent years with the discontinuation of most sedans, the retirement of the F-Type sports car, and the elimination of certain SUVs. Production of the small E-Pace SUV and the electric I-Pace SUV is expected to end in the coming weeks. Additionally, it appears that the factory producing the F-Pace SUV—the brand’s most popular model—will shut down in a few months for an indefinite period.
One might wonder what’s happening at Jaguar. However, the halt in production for most of the brand’s models does not necessarily signal the end of Jaguar—quite the opposite. For instance, the F-Pace SUV will still be available at dealerships.
The British brand is preparing the certification of three new fully electric models. Given the current market’s lukewarm response to EVs, there’s no need to rush. Jaguar prefers to take its time, which is why these new SUVs are not expected to debut until 2026, according to several sources.
What’s Next?
Very little is known about these three new fully electric models. However, the most popular rumor suggests one will be a high-performance sedan. At least one of the other two models is expected to be an SUV.
A Fully Electric Lineup
The British automaker has not confirmed much on this subject. However, it’s possible that some gasoline-powered models could still be introduced by Jaguar in the coming years. It seems unlikely that the brand is entirely ready for an all-electric lineup. A new generation of the F-Pace could very well hit the market in the future. Who knows, maybe the brand has more exciting surprises in store for us.
